Boats docked at a Fort Lauderdale harbor at sunset

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report: A Trip Worth the Wait

Published July 3rd, 2026 by Captain Jeff Maggio

Last December, Lloyd from Beaufort, South Carolina, called and said he wanted to put his 10-year-old son on a tarpon. I told him June is usually one of the best times of year for tarpon fishing in Fort Lauderdale, so he booked two days with us. The first day couldn't have gone much better. His son landed five tarpon. The second day, the fish weren't quite as cooperative, but that's tarpon fishing. We still had plenty of action with a half-dozen shots. By the end of the trip, Lloyd and his son were already talking about coming back next June. It was one of those father-and-son trips that everyone hopes for, and we're looking forward to getting them back on the water for another shot at South Florida tarpon.
