Today was a truly incredible inshore trip. I received a call from a gentleman (Doug) who was coming to Ft. Lauderdale to attend the U.S. Adult Soccer Association meeting held at the Yankee Trader on the beach. Doug and his friend Jimmy down from Indianapolis wanted to catch Tarpon. Doug explained that he always wanted to catch one but never had the chance.
Doug like many people never thought of Ft. Lauderdale as a tarpon fishery until spending some time on the lunkerdog.com web-site. Well I picked up Doug and Jimmy behind there hotel at 3PM, then went and picked some bait from the NV ( my Bertram ) and we were fishing. About 5 minutes into the trip a nice tarpon blasts but misses Dougs bait, I looked to them and said now that is promising. Thirty minutes later another fish comes up on Jimmys bait. This fish was hungry and was not taking no for an answer, his rod bends over and the fight was on. I do not think either one of them was expecting such a powerful fish.
It took about 20 minutes to land this beauty!
After releasing this fish, the action slowed for a while until this nice Jack Cravelle slammed another bait.
As the sun lowered it was non-stop action for these guys getting three more tarpon to the boat!
This was a great trip! congradulations on some really nice fish, I love it when a plan comes together.
Look forward to fishing with you guys again in the future.
