Deep Undercover Tarpon with Robin Matt and Jason
Reported by Captain Jeff Maggio on Saturday, April 3rd, 2010
Robin and his partner Tim are regulars, they fish with me multiple times of year. This trip Robin was getting together with two of his life long friends Matt and Jason. Matt was down from DC and Jason still lives locally. The trip started with not being sure wheather to fish for sailfish and tarpon or just tarpon. Well as I waited for them to show up I watched all the charter boats coming in from the day of fishing offshore. I did not see any sailfish flags flying or any other good fish being caught out in the ocean. After Robin showed up we had a short discussion and decided to go deep under cover for tarpon. The boat traffic was immense so we started working our way away from boat traffic. We started seeing tarpon almost immediatly but the fish would not eat for us. The guys told old stories and laughed as we waited for the fish to turn on for us. Thier pateince paid off as the tarpon strikes started to happen. We missed a few good strikes and then Robin and Jason managed to hook a double. It was awsome as the two anglers had their fish jumping all around the boat. Jasons fish shook the hook but Robins fish stuck and we were able to get him to the boat for some quick photos.

Great night guys it was a pleasure taking you!
