I’m on vacation, so I tell Jeff to keep me on the back-burner in case any charters cancel. He call’s me today while Im poolside and tells me he had a cancellation, and I’m in for a late afternoon session. I show up, and we launch. Its always something crazy with this guy. I fish with dead bait, so we were anchored and sunk a couple frozen hogleg heads on the bottom.Jeff yells, “There he is…its a snook” about 5 seconds later a Spinner Shark comes twirling out of the water and breaks the line. Then I get a strike, I let the hokey circle hook do its thing, and Im hooked to a big fish. I blurt out, “This might be a record snook” After about 5 minutes of losing 12lb and chasing it around with the boat, we agree that its a shark. I’m putting serious pressure on the fish and we are at a standstill. Jeff is laughing is butt off, and I hand him the rod and say, “pull on him for a while” I proclaim it might be a giant squid. He says its a Ray. I say it might be a turtle. 20 minutes later we get it in the boat, and its the biggest Jack Crevalle I have ever seen, and I have caught at least 7,000 jack in my life.
