This week we took the Siren a 57ft Huckins sportfishing boat from Fort Lauderdale to Cat Cay in the Southern Bahamas. This is the kind of trip is we do often between now and the end of August. The main target is Blue Marlin, very challenging to say the least. We fished two and a half days and raised 3 marlin. We only got the hook in one of them which then took about 200 yard run and started jumping frantically before spitting the hook. Our anglers Karim and his girl friend Jane arrived Friday afternoon around 2 PM. We were prepared from them and left the Hawks Nest Marina by 2:30.
As the Sun was getting low the fish started to eat. We saw massive schools of tuna getting chased by the little black birds to the outside and huge dolphin being followed by the giant frigate birds as the chased flying fish to the inside. The dolphin looked like trophy size and the tuna were on the small side so I decided to go for the dolphin. As I turned the Siren to the inside the depths were rising fast we went from 3000ft to 300 feet in a matter of seconds and the fish were eating right on the top. It was awsome to see the dolphin coming from 50 yards away and smash our baits. We caught a few around the 20lbs that our mate Mitchell released in a orderly fashion . A couple of real bruisers were jumping out in front of us as they tried to catch the flying fish. I turned the boat hard to the port side to try to head them off, I could see the tops of there tails coming through he water about 100 yards away. The Bull caught wind of are baits and started to charge from over 70 yards away. I yelled to the cockpit “here he comes” 3 seconds later bingo and he destroys the the left rigger. Karim grabs the rod and begins his battle. Te short line then goes off and Jane is now on, so we got a nice double. Jane gets her fish in first a nice fish that weighed 38lbs goes in the box. Karims fish was really fighting hard, but he handled it like a pro and got his fish close enough for Mitchell to get a gaff in him.
In the boat he comes when a whole new battle begins with the fish and Mitchell. After the fish plays possum for about 30 seconds he goes ballistic, Mitchell and the fish get into a full brawl as Karim and Mr. Tupper try to keep the hooks and line out of there way. It looked like cage fighting from the bridge. Mitchell ended up kicking the fishes ass but not after taking a few on the chin.
Now the sun is getting really low and the tuna were going nuts we trolled through them a couple of times and Karim got a nice eater about twenty pounds and then we ran for the Hawks Nest before the sun went down. Mitchel cleaned up the fish and we were eating fresh dolphin and tuna less than an hour later when the Hawks Nest Resort cooked it up for us.

We fished hard the rest of the trip. Ate like kings with great company, what else could you ask for?
