This was the day you could never forget. We travelled for a few hours just to make sure we had enough bait to start fishing as the conditions seemed a little different than the last couple days. We watched large jacks smashing fish on break walls and I hooked into one that broke off around a piling. That fight was great while it lasted. When we began our first drift we came into some large toothy Barracudas. These fish dominated the area and would slice your Mullet in half on the first strike, leaving behind what would only be eaten by another Cuda, so we moved again. As we approached downtown Fort Lauderdale, which already seemed surreal, I hooked into my first Tarpon, and when it broke water reality kicked in, this fish was on my line, not on a television screen and my drag was screaming. People walking their dogs or just walking by, stopped to watch as I landed my first Tarpon. Jeff and I were extremely relieved and ecstatic with the results. I got the big congrats handshake from Jeff, took a few photos and the fish showed me it`s gratification when it blessed my bright white shirt and khaki pants with a treat that (which my wife washed quickly that same night) will be the reminder of this moment that will be ingrained in my mind forever. Moments later we hooked into a monster very close to the first fish. This one could have pushed 100lbs plus. When it broke water, my heart stopped. When it slapped down back into the water, it sounded like a 200 lb person doing a cannon ball from fifty feet. Just awesome! I did lose the fish around some piling, but it was an incredible fight. We drifted back to my place and I ended the first outing with Captain Jeff, that has genuinely begun an addiction that will have me coming back each year to fish with Captain Jeff to catch another silver armoured beast.

Thanks again and I will keep in touch.
